Spilling the Beans

Barack Hussein Obama

It’s one thing to be famous outright but another altogether to lend your fame to further a cause.  We see it most often when celebrities attach themselves to certain charities or in the instance of Bill and Melinda Gates create an enormous foundation in their namesake.   When Oprah lent her name and considerable credibility in backing Barack Obama it not only delivered him his victory in Iowa but gave him a fan base that only someone in Oprah’s unique position can offer.

Once history is written and the campaign signs have been pulled from the frozen ground, I think that today will be regarded as a turning point in the campaign- the point where Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg and Jabba-the Hut, er  uh  Ted Kennedy threw their weight (literally in Teddy’s case) behind Barack.   It’s difficult to say why endorsements matter- but they do.  Having Oprah, Caroline and Ted endorse Barack would be like me getting a letter of recommendation from Katherine Graham (google her).

On the Republican side, 3 middle-aged white dudes go to fisticuffs to see who can emerge as King of the Trailer Park in Florida.

I’m on my 2nd week as an imperfect vegan (there was an unfortunate incident over the weekend involving a lot of wine and an errant chicken wing). Please let me know if you’d like to join the pool that my officemates have started on what day I’m going cave and what I’m going to eat when I do…

I love the support. Love it.

Once upon a time I knew a beautiful girl who loved fried chicken… she dreamed of it many nights in a row, trying desperately not to give in. When one day she was tempted by an evil neighbor who happened to crave “Red Beans and Rice” from a familiar “Chicken Joint”. As I recall, the minute the tender bird hit their lips they couldn’t help but gasp with joy! Famously put the beautiful girl stated, “THIS, is why I got up this morning.”
What can be so bad about something SO good?
Oh how I love to tempt…

Oh and the only thing I can think of is how great of a cartoon character Obama makes in the Political section of the newspaper. Makes me giggle. Am I going to hell for liking his voice?
Imagine if he would have married someone like Pam Anderson, that would make for a good endorsment! ;)

i’ve dabbled a bit in eating more like a vegetarian… but sometimes there is just nothing better than some sushi or a thick steak. i do like tofu dishes. what if coffee came from beef, would you still drink it?

dork-in-asia: didn’t peg you for the tofu type. you never cease to surprise and delight. I had my first organic soy latte this morning. It wasn’t horrible.

RE the vegan thing: How committed are you? Will your cat still get cat food with meat and/or fish? Will you switch to vegan cosmetics? Inquiring minds want to know — does this mean no more lobster at our New Year’s dinner??

    Love you and support you!
