Spilling the Beans

Heart-On

I know it comes as no surprise that men and women have very different notions of what is,  and isn’t romantic.  A collegue of mine is taking his wife on a horse drawn carriage ride downtown at her suggestion and because I can’t get the image of Kramer, the handsome cab and the Costco-sized can of Beefaroni out of my head, the idea of a horse-drawn carriage ride anywhere doesn’t seem romantic to me.

I saw clients today and while waiting in the lobby, 6 different florists walked in, each of them carrying a more hiddeous floral arrangement than theri predecessor.  Hiddeous perhaps becuase they were so… ordinary.  So 1-800-Flowers.

My 30-something fear isn’t that I’ll end up alone, but that I’ll end up with with someone who on bended knee with a teddy bear in one hand an a box from Kay Jewlers in the other professes his everlasting love.   Or I lift up chilled glass of vodka to my lips to find out that there’s a  3-stone pendant swimming in it.  I’m jaded, I guess.  Or I’ve watched too many movies starring Meg Ryan.

The cynacism serves me insofar as it it’s made me see that while I may not know what I want, I have a clear vision of what I don’t.  Can I get an “amen”?

Romance is in the simple gestures.  A man who orders for you in a restaurant, knows your “drink” and what you take in your coffee.

What is the most romantic thing your Valentine has ever done for you?

We had the most romantic VD this year…
Upon my arrival home from work, we flipped a coin to decide if we would go to Red Robin or Foster’s. I lost, but we attempted to go to Red Robin anyway (nothing says I love you like Red Robin, baby) but, alas, it was full of snotty little children and their “us time”-deprived parents. We ended up at Foster’s.
We used up all of our romantic V-Day powers 2 years ago – I refer to it as our Engage-a-versary :)
