Spilling the Beans

Scary?

The starbucks closest to my house has just been remodeled to include, among other things, twice the number of electrical outlets and better furniture.  There are worse places to spend a Saturday night as the weather shifts from what it was today in the 70’s to what it’s expected to be tomorrow, in the 30’s with whipping winds.

On seldom occasions when someone asks me about my blog, I usually say the same thing which is this:  Some of what I write even as I’m writing it, I know it’s pretty good.  Not great maybe, but pretty good.  Other times, I know what I’ve written is not good at all – either because the subject matter isn’t good or it’s not funny or not edited well (if at all).  In those posts, I struggle as to whether to post.  Should I only be posting the good stuff?

I wish I had more “writer” friends who could give me that perspective.   One of the promises I made to myself is that whatever I write, I post.  Another one is to balance self censorship against whether what I’ve written will hurt someone else.  And to that end, I unfortunately know that I’ve failed.

Most people don’t actually post to blogs (in general) unless there was something in it that struck them a certain way and that person feels compelled to comment.  My friends and family who read this often will send me an email and let me have it.   But that’s ok.  It’s toughening my skin and will ultimately make me a better writer.

And yes.  I’ve written some very personal things on-line.  It is what it is.

Good Lord, Java Jennifer! It’s a BLOG. You’re doing what all bloggers do. If those reading it don’t agree with you, so what? They are free to post their comments, too. Again — IT’S A BLOG!!
