Vegan Shoes
When I decided to become vegan, one of the rules I made for myself is that I wouldn’t buy any leather products but that anything I currently have in my life (like my car, shoes, belts, etc.) can stay put but that they would be replaced with vegan items.
What I didn’t realize is that a) it’s difficult to find vegan shoes and that b) when you find them, they are mostly ugly.I had counted on Payless, known to all for inexpensive man-made shoes but who knew that they’d classed themselves up quite a bit and added a great deal of leather product into the mix. I used to go to Payless quite a bit with two friend s of mine, one who has the misfortune of having 5 ½ Wide shoe size and another friend o f mine who has a size 12 and both of them could find shoes there.
I bought 3 pairs of shoes today, 2 are 100% vegan and the third pair has the teeniest bit of leather as part of the shoe construction. It’s progress.
Rarely do I use retail therapy as a coping skill but I have two friends I don’t see as often as I would like to and we spent the day at the mall taking advantage of some sales. I lost 4lbs this week, my single biggest drop to date since becoming vegan and it made shopping almost fun. After, we went to McCormick and Schmick for dinner and the restaurant made me a yummy veggie tray which I washed down with two vodka gimlets. Good stuff.I leave for California at o-dark thirty on the 11th. My mom’s knee surgery is on Wednesday the 12th; I’m with her until the 26th at least but may stay longer if the situation warrants it. She has been in tremendous pain for so many years; it’s exciting to think that may all be behind her. I’m looking forward to blogging in the hospitals about hot doctors.

Earth shoes, in general, have worked wonders for my posture and general comfort in getting around. When I bought these, I didn’t really expect to walk far in them, but I have no problem walking a few miles when I wear them. Even then, I am ready to walk more.
