Spilling the Beans

Wow. I’m really fat…!

It’s possible that the URL to my blog will be distributed to several (hundred???) people at my company as a fundraising example for my Biggest Loser efforts.  I feel compelled to offer to anyone visiting my blog for the first time:  I am a horrible speller and a walking grammatical error.  Whatever.  I’m fat which is really what counts for TBL.

After having my BMI taken by my personal trainer this week in DC, I can say that I’m actually morbidly obese with a BMI of 40.30 meaning that over 40% of my weight is in fat vs. muscle, skin, bones and gigantic personality.  I was hoping that perhaps some of the weight could somehow be attributed to my enormously loving heart, larger-than-life personality or my thick and lustrous hair.  But no.  In fact, that 40% is instead accounted for in my enormous ass and thick thighs.

So let it be known, I’m not fat in the way that the size 4 girls lament not being a 0.  That’s like, Cosmo Magazine fat.  I’m fat.  Like the point and stare kind.

It hasn’t always been this way. By 2005, I’d completed 6 marathons and three times as many 5K, 10K’s and half marathons.

Then IT with he-who-shall-not-be-named happened and while I won’t go into the details in this particular post, there are back posts that cover this subject ad-nauseum.  It’s tedious and not important.

What is important to me is that in a very real way, gaining this much weight as put me in a position of using it for the good of The Millennium Promise, an organization I’ve come to feel loyal to due almost extensively to my company’s efforts to give back in such a meaningful way.  That my friends and family who remember me in happier, thinner and healthier days and are willing to support me every day in my efforts to lose this weight on behalf of CBAfrica is a blessing and an awesome responsibility- to the people sponsoring me and to the organization itself.

If you are participating in the contest, I wish you success.  If you are not participating but would like to sponsor me at $/ lb, please let me know how to reach you by posting a comment to this blog.

I’ve been on travel this week (Orlando and Chicago) but have made time to work out and am in my 3rd month as a vegan.  Still, there was an episode involving a basket of tortilla chips and some salsa at an unforgiving bad Chili’s in Orlando.    My weigh in is back in the office on Friday and I’m sure I’ll post an update then.  Unless I gain weight.  Then I’ll be at the Chili’s down the road.

I admire your bravery. I have a co-worker that once offered to measure my fat with one of those pinchy things and the conversation went like this: “Can I meas-” No. “I doesn’t hurt or anyth-” No! “It’ll only take a minu-” NO! My body fat remains a blissful mystery . . .
