I wouldn’t trust Sarah Palin to watch my cat, or This is what a condom looks like, you fundamentalist freak.
I am so thoroughly disgusted with John McCain and Sarah Palin that I struggle to find words to adequately convey the sum of it. Am I to believe that a woman who just gave birth to a baby with Down Syndrome is so completely out of touch with her own daughter that “Bristol” (And what the hell kind of name is that anyway??) dropped out of school feigning Mononucleosis, only to reveal that she’s 5 months pregnant? And marrying the father? If Sarah Palin can’t keep it together at home, how in the hell is she going to guide a nation when geezer-McCain gets another melanoma or strokes out humping his billionaire wife. Family values my ass. Unless you mean that you make your family as large as possible. I’m with Perez Hilton: the line between Sarah Palin and Lynn Spears ( Britney and Jamie Lynn’s mamma) is thinner than dental floss; they’ve been wholly unable to instill self esteem, common sense and intelligence in their respective daughters. Bristol, you’re no Chelsea Clinton, that’s for sure. And you’ve managed to make the Bush sisters look like Nuns.
And I do so love that the Republicans, the same ones who largely ignored New Orleans 3 years ago are all, “Hey let’s all cut the convention short so we can help the victims of Gustov” rather than face the reality of John McCain’s poor pick for a running mate. Did he really think that people with a vagina, ex-Hillary supporters would flock to the McCain/ Palin ticket because he added a woman to his ticket? The McCain/ Palin ticket couldn’t give a fuck through a rolling do-nut about displaced refugees though I’m sure they care a lot about the oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
And now I’m stuck voting for Obama (see blogs from earlier this summer when I said I was voting for McCain) as a means of voting against John McCain’s girl-hating, sexually irresponsible, gun-toting, anti-gay, anti-feminist running mate.

Wow, very, um, judgmental about this young teenage girl and her family. My next door neighbor’s daughter got pregnant in high school, they deal with it, things happen in people’s families and not always according to plan. We all have our family issues. I haven’t checked the science on this yet but I think even people with good self-esteem can be impregnated. You sound like so much of the Left these days; very bitter and angry and hateful. It’s like that Seinfeld episode where Elaine realizes she’s become what she used to dislike: George. Even Obama has come out saying the topic of Palin’s daughter should be out of bounds during an election. Judge her on her merits, not on her daughter’s private situation and not on what Perez Hilton of all people has to say.
You know I love you, right? But I have to tell you that this is one of your most bitter blogs….But I also know that you gotta get it out! And you don’t have to vote for McCain OR Obama. My in-laws are writing in Ron Paul and Hilary Clinton. Don’t vote for anyone you don’t want to vote for.
But…I like what Republican Dude had to say…Perez Hilton is a horrible source…and what the hell does Palin’s family drama have to do with co-running a country???? Take it from me…parents only have so much influence over their children. I think she is refreshing
And she has just as little experience as Obama…at least she’s only the running mate.
I HEART YOU!!!!
Again…I also Heart you…BUT
With kids, you can only do so much. I don’t have children, so I’ll hold off on being judgmental. I will say that having coached hundreds of, mostly young ladies, in High School Debate, the teen years are trying times for every family. I think that the issue of this girl being pregnant is one for her family and not ax-wielding party strategists of the opposition OR the media looking for a big story. Period.
Sarah Palin is another thing. She is an issue – her politics specifically. She is FAR right and clearly there to shore up the Christian vote and funds McCain needs now. She will also, like it or not, play very well in th West and MidWest. She does Scare me with her far right ideology.
But, see, you are actually helping her by focusing on a non-issue that critical voters of the Midwest and West see NOT to be an issue (b/c they typically have kids and know this isn’t a real issue).
You are helping McCain – you may not believe that now, but we have 8 weeks to go here. This non-story will die. The only one who will care are those who were not voting for McCain anyway (and, I’m sorry, but I never bought for one minute that you were pulling the trigger for McCain – and his campaign doesn’t care about that.
They care about votes they can win in areas that matter (again, Norther VA? yeah, they know they will lose that) like those that Republicans lost by thin margins previously. Ohio counties, PA counties – all of the west is up for grabs.
THAT is the race.
You want to impact the race and make a difference? Look at the issues
Java Jennifer, I admire your guts in putting it out there, knowing you are going to take some shots for your opinions. And, even though I was appalled at the mere idea of you voting for McCain (seriously?!?!?), I admire you for your courage in even suggesting you might do so.
McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin? I am frightened.
He obviously selected her as his running mate because he hopes that the distraught Hillary Clinton supporters will jump the Democratic ship. It is so transparent! As if any of Hillary’s supportors would be at all impressed by a woman with such opposite political views! Teaching creationism in schools? Being against stem-cell research? Wanting to deny women their reproductive choices? I could go on forever.
And wasn’t it John McCain who criticized Barack Obama vehemently for being too young and inexperienced? Palin is a 44-year-old hockey mom and beauty queen runner-up who has less than two years of experience as governor of Alaska, one of our least populous states. This is the person the Republican Party wants to be a heartbeat away from the Oval Office? McCain selecting her on his 72nd birthday reminds us that “President Palin” is a distinct — and horrifying — possibility.
Sarah Palin stated that she would certainly be happy to recite the Pledge of Allegiance using the words “under God” because it was “good enough for our Founding Fathers.” I have no problems with this phrase in the Pledge of Allegiance, but I do have a problem with a candidate whose knowledge of America’s history is so lacking that (despite all the recent press on this) she doesn’t even know that the words “under God” were added to the Pledge during the Eisenhower years!!
And it’s funny, in a sad way, that Palin doesn’t seem to remember that McCain voted against equal pay for women. What kind of woman associates herself with a man who doesn’t consider her an equal?
Yesterday Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post wrote an editorial entitled “McCain’s Choice of Palin Is An Insult to Women.” It is a thoughtful and careful look at this issue and well worth the investment in time to read it. As she says, “How dumb do they think women are? So dumb that former Clinton supporters would defect to McCain-Palin even though the candidates’ agendas — including their agendas on issues of particular importance to women — could not be more different?” I agree with Ms. Marcus: I am insulted!!
Bravo, False Auntie! How’d you get to be so smart? I agree with you. I wish I’d said all that. And thanks for the Under God Trivia. I need that one for a friend at work who thinks the founders were the last word. Love you!
Okay, I can’t resist making this comment — one that I’m sure hundreds (thousands?) of people have probably either thought or stated out loud:
Perhaps in a vice presidential debate, Joe Biden will, in speaking to Sarah Palin, paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen’s famous remark to Dan Quayle:
“Governor, I know Hillary Clinton. And you, madam, are no Hillary Clinton.”
About sums it up, doesn’t it?
Y’all just don’t get it. John McCain picked Sarah Palin because she makes him look good in comparison! The media can focus on all of her faults, like being investigated for campaign fund irregularities, being sued because she fired a state official for not firing her ex-brother-in-law (a lawsuit that will cost the taxpayers of Alaska a bundle), having a pregnant and unmarried 17-year-old daughter despite preaching a strong fundamentalist family-values agenda, having no experience whatsoever in foreign policies . . .
Brilliant move on McCain’s part. What’s the last article you read about his support of the illegal war in Iraq, the support he receives from the oil industry, his wife’s theft of drugs to support her addiction, etc.
Yep, he chose her to take the heat off himself, and it’s working.
McCain-Palin: What a pair of losers.
Hillary supporters love Hillary. But you have to keep in mind 2 things:
1. She isn’t on the ticket any longer for a reason. She lost. I’m still not convinced she actually knows that.
2. Those who don’t like her, REALLY don’t like her.
SO to say Sarah is no Hillary will be seen more as a compliment to Palin for a higher number of voters than it will seem an insult.
Getting outside of the party bubble – both for dems and Republicans – seems to be tough to do.
Midwestern/western rural populations who are on the fence – and they are – happen to be the people that will decide this election. If they decide that they connect with Palin – not even on issues (remember, the avg reading comprehension of the average american is, what, 7th grade? – if that) they will vote for the McCain ticket.
We are looking at a very close election shaping up and all of the party line stuff I see packed in this page of replies won’t matter one bit to that “on the fence” population Obama and McCain are targeting.
TY TY TY – Ever since he announced her as VP choice I’ve been fuming at the obvious insult to women and their capabilities. That her daughter probably got pregnant to escape the family, and is now trapped more than ever in a need to ‘keep up appearances’ – I truly feel sorry for her. Her look of “doomed” at the convention says it all.
Palin is from an Oil state – just not Texas. There’s the change McCain speaks of. Frankly – I am so infuriated at such a blatant insult to woman hood…….. I have no words strong enough and still keep it clean, and even then it’s not enough.
Obama lost me when he chose Joe Biden – nothing against Biden but with all the capable women in the Dem party……. he could have easily owned the election. Now he gets me back as purely an Anti-McCain vote. Did McCain think he was picking a trophy wife? Look at all the euphenisms – she’s young, she’s pretty, she’s a suburbanite, she’s ……… yeah, right.
Ease up on the poor teenage daughter – she’s doomed to marry this kid in a ‘shotgun’ wedding so Mommy Dearest won’t lose rep.
*sighs* With McCain’s age and health – do we want as president someone who doesn’t even own a passport and had to just now apply for one? Sounds like an arranged marriage – he didn’t even know her when he nominated her. o.0
Canada is looking better and better. Not sure I can stand idly by and watch a country I love dearly continue to self-destruct at the whim of corporations and Big Oil.
She announced that she was pregnant at 7 months. The Alaska press corps & fellow legislators, reported from multiple sources, showed surprise, since Sarah didn‘t show signs of being pregnant.
http://www.adn.com/politics/story/339576.html
http://www.mahalo.com/Sarah_Palin_Pregnancy_Rumors
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/353927_governor06.html
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-69834
She had announced that she was pregnant with a “SPECIAL NEEDS” child & her water broke one month early before she was scheduled to give a major speech. Her reaction was to give the speech and then fly to Alaska. She was determined to bear her child in her home state, so she proceeded to fly from Texas to Alaska.
A flight that takes over 8 hours, from Dallas, to Seattle, to Anchorage. During which, should there be any major complications with her SPECIAL NEEDS” child, who was being born one month premature, Sarah Palin, the lady about to give birth, chose to travel with little medical care on hand, miles above the Earth, for over 8 hours, & much of that time, having no conceivable place to land. Does this sound like a level headed person?
Then, after having gone through more than 8 hours since her water broke, she gets home; bypasses the Anchorage hospital, and travels 50 miles to get to her home town hospital.
In other words, is this woman, who was about to deliver a “SPECIAL NEEDS” child one month premature, who spent anywhere from 10 to 15 hours of time speaking and traveling after her water broke, who never stopped to get any face-to-face medical care, actually someone you can trust?
When the water breaks, it’s not necessarily immediate panicking & painful labor. But, would any obstetrician just give the OK to fly 8 hours away, with no possibility of emergency care, if such was called for? And remember, this was a “SPECIAL NEEDS” child !!!
Would anyone, if they were truly pregnant, especially with a “SPECIAL NEEDS” child, put themselves, or their unborn child at such a risk?
Would anyone who’s supposed to be so intelligent and rational, that they could possibly run this country, put the members of a flight crew into such a position?
And was this all merely for the reason that she wanted her baby born in Alaska? Is this some kind of thing having to do with ASTROLOGY? You know, the place & time of birth issue. Did she specifically plan to make sure this child was going to come out of her fit looking tummy, exactly at that time & place? OR IS EVERYTHING PALIN’S PEOPLE SAY A COMPLETE PILE OF BULL CRAP ?????
WHO IS THIS FREAK FROM A LAND THAT’S DARK FOR HALF OF THE YEAR ?
Wow, Pete, you need take the medication every day and not skip a few days. You should try to read some actual journalism and step away from fanciful, conspiracy-laced left-wing blogger dementia. The phobic reaction of the Left is priceless with Palin, absolute lunacy, which proves McCain made the right pick. If you actually thought she was pathetic, you would be happy with the pick. Your sheer hysteria proves she’s really thrown your side for a loop, just as intended.
The selection of Palin was meant to win over the independent vote in the middle, and then hopefully some small fraction of the Hillary vote. Palin doesn’t want to be Hillary Clinton, she wants to be much more than that, she wants to redefine feminism into something that actually appeals broadly to more women, not just Leftist extremists. Sure, Hillary’s a lot older and has more experience, but the subject of experience has to be just a tad bit uncomfortable for Obama supporters, doesn’t it? After all, he’s running for the top spot having never accomplished much other than writing his memoirs, and Gov Palin is only running for VP. McCain’s mother was at the convention and is 96yrs old, alive and well, he’s going to live a long time. Long enough to see Palin at the TOP of the ticket next time around! It’s obvious to everyone, including the Dems, that Palin has really struck a chord with the American people and especially with the much-coveted ‘regular folks’ in the swing states who will decide this election. You know them, the people clinging to guns and religion in Obama’s snobby elitist opinion. The ones he couldn’t win against Hillary. Man, the Dems may just find a way to hand this election to us after all, I can’t believe how badly this opportunity has been blundered by Obama, this was supposed to be the year that there’s no way a Republican could win. If he had chosen Hillary, the game would be over. But instead he went completely flaccid and chose Biden which practically screams to the world “I don’t know what I’m doing so I’m picking a VP who does”. Even left-leaning writers have admitted that. What other reason would he choose Biden for? How many people are pumped by Biden’s selection, outside of his immediate family? Obama is no longer the star of Election 2008, we’ll see how he plays in a supporting role. It’s not over yet by any means, but it’s a whole new ballgame now.
Republican Dude:
While I don’t agree with “Pete’s” implication that Sarah Palin’s actions when little Trig was born mean that the baby wasn’t hers but was her daughter’s, I absolutely — as a high risk mother — agree that her decision-making process was flawed. No high risk pregnant woman logically makes the choices Sarah Palin did. Any obstetrician who didn’t graduate at the bottom of his or her medical school class would NEVER advise someone in her circumstances (special needs child, leaking amniotic fluid, six weeks before a due date) to do anything other than immediately get to the nearest hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit. If her decision making process is so flawed in a life or death situation, I shudder to think what her decision making process would be like in a crisis matter for our country.
And, frankly, you seem to have not done any research whatsoever into Sarah Palin. Check the facts, Republican Dude, on her push for earmarks, the allegations of abuse of power, her outright lies about her stance on the Bridge to Nowhere, and then — and only then — you are qualified to comment. And, if after doing your research, you still support Sarah Palin, then good for you. Just don’t expect much respect from those of us with brains.
I notice in today’s news that McCain’s campaign manager says Sarah Palin won’t give interviews until she is ready.
Hello? We are expected to believe she’s ready to be the vice president of the United States but she’s not “ready” to be interviewed? Is that because no one has written her answers for her and there’s no teleprompter? Is it because some well-prepared journalist might actually bring up the facts on her Bridge to Nowhere stance and force her to respond?
Palin intereviews need to happen. No one has a firm idea of the policies she has put in place and her views on the issues that are of concern to the majority of Americans. Using the media’s take on her public life to prevent and delay her from giving interviews is a cop out. They can advise the interviewer to stick to questions not concerning her family. Specific questions about her daughter — no. But questions about her stance on abstinence education, sex education and the programs she cut back on for aiding pregnant teenagers in Alaska — yes.
Actually, republicandude – I am glad he picked Sarah Palin. It points out that he is easily manipulated by the party who’s only goal is winning so the rich can stay rich. It also shows that he seriously lacks good judgement and at his age may be mentally impaired. I can’t wait to hear his next apology for a screw up, and since every speech has one – you know it’s coming.
In my town it’s as redneck die-hard republican as it gets – and women AND men are furious. In fact, it’s beginning to look like that for the first time in the town’s history – it will be voting Against the conservative side.
McCain has definately split his party and it will cost them the election. In fact, in several areas it has boosted the Libertarian Party’s Candidate. It all depends on how good his ‘handlers’ are at controlling him and the mainstream media. The more people talk about it – the more they wonder about his mental capability at 72. If the Republicans truly meant to win – you can’t tell me she was the only Republican woman they could find to pick.
OK, if Sarah Palin is the devil and the worst choice in history for VP, why is McCain up 4pts in the Gallup Poll today?
With McCain up 50% to Obama’s 46% in today’s Gallup Poll, it’s the largest lead McCain has ever had in this election cycle. So if Palin has “split the vote” (:::pauses to stop laughing:::), then why the surge since Palin was nominated? Wouldn’t his numbers be falling if she was a bad pick, or if his base was divided? Is it just coincidence that he names her VP and now he’s got his best numbers of the election? You can’t get to 50% without winning some of the independents in the middle, so what does that say about claims that she only appeals to the conservative base? By all accounts, she stole the show at the convention, middle America loves her, I’m sure McCain didn’t get the bump from his boring speech. Audiences since then for the ticket have been standing room only. The news media is battling it out to see who gets to be the first to sit down with her (Charles Grodin from ABC got the nod). I’m sure the media’s probably dying to eviscerate her because she’s kicking The One’s butt. And the beautiful thing is, the more they attack her, the more that galvanizes her supporters, so bring it on. Palin’s gonna play well in the blue collar battleground states like PA, Ohio, Michigan, FL, because they’ll identify with her. Those are the states that Obama got steamrolled in even in his own party. Ultimately, it’s whoever wins those states who will win the Presidency. Too early to tell, but even the most strident Palin-haters must realize that McCain made the best choice he could have made, a choice that actually has him in the lead when things were looking grim not long ago.
HMM. You all have said a lot. Parents make a lot of mistakes. You have to choose your candidate the best of who you think will support your direction of the company. You should not choose the candidate based on their family stature or lack there of. We are all human and make mistakes. Obama said he is Muslim Faith or some context of that which is concerning to me. You should not choose the candidate on if they are “right” or “left” all the time. Obama is the single most liberal voter with Biden following third. So if you vote for Obama/Biden you agree that the US needs extreme liberalization. If you vote for McCain/Palin you are voting conservativee. Do you consider experience… are you a leader? What makes a leader… I am leaving it up to the debates.. but I have to tell you the name Obama, scares me.
Lordy! First of all, Obama is NOT a Muslim. And, even if he was, what difference does it make? Are you implying that Muslims are terrorists?
And please do read carefully. The post about Sarah Palin’s actions when she was about to give birth had no judgments about her family stature. Her actions in this instance were used as an example of her poor decision-making skills. It’s that history of bad decisions on her part, whether professional or personal, that cast grave doubt on her ability to make sound decisions for America.
R-Dude — Of course McCain’s numbers went up! His choice of Sarah Palin did exactly what he wanted it to do. It bought him the right-wing, fundamentalist, uneducated,gay-bashing, religious nutcase voters. My guess (or is this a hope?) is that rational Americans will be appalled by this and will reject Sarah Palin. McCain sold out.
False Auntie – - you say ‘of course his numbers went up’ even though the Left has been saying what a horrible choice she was and how she was going to sink the ticket, so apparently his rise wasn’t predicted in the ranks from his choice. I know the avalanche of support and interest in Sarah Palin has thrown the Left for a loop, so it no doubt comforts you to tell yourselves that her only supporters are the extremists and undesirables that you describe. However, any rational view of the polling data simply does not support that contention. You mathematically cannot win 50% of the vote with just the people you describe, there is clearly a broader base of mainstream support than just extremist nutcases. But there are many in the Leftist media who are taking a similar tack, trying to paint her as an extremist in order to isolate her, turning a blind eye to the polling data which clearly indicates broader support than just the conservative base. The Gallup poll from yesterday which is confined to “Likely Voters” and not just anyone, shows McCain with 55% and Obama with 45%. The longer that the Left and the media (redundant, sorry) continue to try to keep their collective heads in the sand about the true effect Palin is having on the electorate, the more damage they do to their own candidate. Anyone can see that the public is enamored with her, and the more howling from the Left about this and that trivial matter only seems to magnify her. The media making fools out of themselves underestimating Governor Palin just keeps getting better and better, and yet they don’t seem to get it.
Here’s my prediction: Obama sees himself sinking in the polls, and it’s pretty much known that Democrats don’t play well from behind, “on defense” as the San Francisco Chronicle lamented yesterday. So, very soon, Biden will announce that he’s resigning from the ticket to ‘attend to his family’, a deliberate jibe at Palin. Then, wiping the crocodile tears out of his eyes, Obama will announce that as Biden’s replacement, he’s naming – - wait for it – - Hillary Clinton!! It won’t have the same effect as if he’d named her originally, since it will look like the desperate act it is, but will it work? I wouldn’t bet against it. Notice how you’re not hearing much from Hillary in Obama’s defense? She’s holding out for this deal. If it happens, you heard it here first.
McCain now winning majority of Independents:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/110137/McCain-Now-Winning-Majority-Independents.aspx
Funny, I ran across this article moments AFTER my previous post.
OMG, this is too good not to highlight:
From the Gallup website
“Second, as the Gallup Poll Daily trends discussed here show, voter movement toward McCain since the Republican convention occurred mainly with independents (19% increase since the convention), thus broadening McCain’s appeal beyond the party.” (same link as previous post)
Of Course McCain’s polling is up – any idiot could have predicted that. Palin is there to keep the spotlight off of McCain and his extremely poor record and the fact he can’t decide where to stand on important issues. Of Course it’s up! Now all those white good ole boys can brag they voted for a woman – well duh.
McCain will win – divide, distract and avoid real issues – lovely campaign strategy. He has the highest number of experienced DC lobbyists from Bush (59) that any campaign has ever seen. We all know the Reps know how to rig a vote, and how to pass laws that seem somehow to miraculously always work in their favor – well duh!
The Electoral College picks the President – the American people don’t count. The national vote is just like in Iraq with Hussein – we Think we matter.
I love my country too much to just sit idly by and watch it become a dictatorship. I have cancer – doctors will tell you stress is the worst thing you can have when fighting cancer. McCain has cancer, 72 years old and is trying to get the most stressful job in the US.
The real question is – who will be pulling Palins strings when she steps in for him?
Be afraid – be very afraid.
Some random comments, since I don’t seem to have much of a life these days (yeah, right) since the election bug has bitten me:
Palin presents her family as a unique qualification for office, saying that raising five kids has given her experience that that will prove invaluable in the new administration. (One can only imagine her threatening Vladimir Putin with a timeout or arranging car pools for a congressional caucus.) I myself am a working mother and the wife of a busy working father. (So I am qualified for a position on the Supreme Court or at least a spot in the cabinet, right?) I am also the primary caregiver for my elderly mother with Alzheimer’s. (I’m sure this is all it takes to qualify me to develop our comprehensive national health care policy.)
I don’t begrude her balancing the demands of work and family; I admire that. But there are MILLIONS of us, male and female, out there with this experience. Are we all, then, qualified for national public office???
Frankly – I agree Auntie. If that’s all it takes to qualify to be the one to run the country I know most working mothers/wives/caregivers are very competant at multitasking. Maybe we need the American Woman Party?
Having a visual imagination – I loved the one I got about Putin. Send him to his room?
Congratulations Auntie and Sherry, you win!! In fact you win 2-0. That’s because absolutely no one – - not the McCain folks, not the RNC, not Sarah Palin herself, nor anyone I’ve ever heard – - has ever suggested that Governor Palin is qualified to be VP because she’s a mom. Since no one has made that argument, you win 2-0.
Sorry, Republican Dude. You can make that 3-0, since I’ve also read this. Not on some wildass blog, but in researching McCain’s and Palin’s speeches.
Check out Tony Norman’s opinion piece in today’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for an interesting viewpoint . . .
Wow, baseballnut, I read Tony Norman’s piece as you suggested, was I supposed to have learned something from it? It’s just a string of insults, mostly tired old DNC talking points you can read just about anywhere. Didn’t see an original idea in it. What was interesting about it to you?
And I would appreciate if you could post a link to where the qualification for Governor Palin to be VP was based on her being a mother. I know some people identify with her being a mother, and appreciate that part of her experience, but nowhere have I seen anyone claim that that’s what qualifies her to be VP. The qualifications I’ve seen referenced have to do with her 2yrs of being Governor, and 6yrs of being Mayor. If you could post a link to that claim, I’d appreciate it.
